Die Arbeiten der 12-teiligen Serie “CRITICAL LANDSCAPES – Emblems of Exploitation“ zeigen Landschaften des 21.Jahrhunderts, die beispielhaft für die Ausbeutung von Ressourcen und deren Folgen in einer globalisierten Welt stehen.
„Unsere fortgeschrittenen politischen Ökonomien haben eine Welt geschaffen, in der Komplexität zu oft dazu neigt, extreme Brutalitäten zu produzieren“ schreibt Saskia Sassen in „Expulsions. Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy”. 
Die Auswirkungen zeigen die Sujets der Serie:
Zerstörung der Biosphäre durch Überdüngung, Rohstoffabbau und Plantagen (FERTILIZE, MINE, PLANT), schmelzendes Eis und tauender Permafrost durch Emissionen (MELT, THAW), Bodenverbauung und -versiegelung (SPRAWL), Übertourismus (TRAVEL), Migration und Leben in Lagern (DETAIN), sowie Globalisierung des Wohnungsmarkts und Zwangsvollstreckungen (FORECLOSE).
Sie zeigen auch die Auswirkungen unseres tagtäglichen Konsums – von Energie, Nahrung, Daten etc.  – an Orten, die oft unsichtbar bleiben, wie Data Center, Logistikzentren oder Agrarindustrien in globalen Peripherien (STREAM, DELIVER, GRAB). 
Die Verwendung von Verben als Titel weist auf die aktive Rolle des Menschen in dieser Zerstörung hin.
Die Arbeiten lehnen sich formal an die Kunstform des Emblems an, eine Kunstform aus der Renaissance, die sich aus auf den ersten Blick oft rätselhaft anmutenden Bildern aus dem Bereich Natur, Geschichte oder Mythologie, sowie deren erläuternden Texten - oft Lebensweisheiten, moralische Verhaltensregeln oder auch politische Themen – zusammensetzt.
Die Arbeiten nehmen auch deren Strukturierung in die Elemente Titel (Lemma), allegorische Landschaft (Ikon) und erklärender Text (Subscriptio) auf, und interpretieren sie als neue Zeichensysteme des Anthropozän.  

The works of the 12-part series “CRITICAL LANDSCAPES – Emblems of Exploitation“ show landscapes of the 21^st century that exemplify the exploitation of resources and its consequences in a globalized world.
“Our advanced political economies have created a world where complexity too often tends to produce elementary brutalities” writes Saskia Sassen in „Expulsions. Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy”.
The effects of this are shown in the subjects of the series:
Destruction of the biosphere through over-fertilization, raw material mining and plantations (FERTILIZE, MINE, PLANT), melting ice and thawing permafrost due to emissions (MELT, THAW), soil construction and soil sealing (SPRAWL), overtourism (TRAVEL), migration and life in camps (DETAIN), and globalization of the housing market and foreclosure (FORECLOSE).
They also show the effects of our everyday consumption – of energy, food, data etc. – in places that often remain invisible, such as data centers, logistics centers or agricultural industries in global peripheries (STREAM, DELIVER, GRAB).
The use of verbs as titles indicates the active role of humans in this destruction.
The works are formally based on the art form of the emblem, an art form from the Renaissance that consists of seemingly enigmatic images from the fields of nature, history or mythology, as well as their explanatory texts – often wisdom of life, moral rules of conduct or political topics.
The works also incorporate their structuring in the elements of title (Lemma), allegorical landscape (Ikon) and explanatory text (Subscriptio) and interpret them as new sign systems of the Anthropocene.
